Fred Chamberlin thought it would be fun to tag me with the newest type of me me - Why I love My Real Estate Profession. I do love my job - but have tried to avoid doing this post. Not because I do not want to share why I love my profession but because I have been enjoying sitting back and watching others.
My story is more of how I got here than why I love real estate. I got my start in real estate long before even I realized it. It seems every occupation I have had in my life has led me to be a Full Time Central Oregon REALTOR. I have worked in several fields that all helped mold me into a great REALTOR.
While supporting my children I had a wide range of jobs - not careers but jobs! I worked for a drilling company - this helped me understand, range, townships and sections. I learned the drilling process and a lot about the well industry. Then came insurance, homeowners insurance and the in's outs and pit falls. Some how I stumbled into a law office and a lot of education in law.
In 1994 I decided to come home - back to my roots. Back to La Pine Oregon where I grew up learned right from wrong and felt safe. I did not want to stay in the law field, even though I loved it, the world in a law office is a pretty dismal one most days.
Upon returning to Central Oregon I landed my first real estate related job. Assistant to Rick DeLuca - Rick had a small family business that was the support staff and heart beat to his Real Estate Seminar business. Rick has a large following and is an amazing teacher, person and was one of the most successful real estate brokers I have encountered.
Working for Rick, I helped agents across the Country and a few other Countries. I had the opportunity to talk with and assist agents put Rick's systems into place. The real estate seed had been planted. Life dealt me some strange cards and I had to leave my position with Rick. It was one of the toughest things I ever did, I loved working with Rick and his family.
Next came a few odd jobs including housekeeping in Sunriver. Sunriver is a resort here in Central Oregon, and often times during the busy seasons the vacation rental companies need more help then they can hire. My sister in law was the executive housekeeper for one company and had 4 girls quit during 4th of July week. I took a job with her and worked the summer. Who would have thought it would help me be a better REALTOR, but it did.
Once summer was over it was time to go back to the office setting what was in my blood. Because my supervisor was a relative I thought it would be better to ask the owner of the company to be my contact and reference, so I called him. He was gracious enough to agree with my thoughts on needing a believable reference but wanted to know what type of job I would be applying for. When I told him, he hired me as his assistant. He was and still is the owner of a Real Estate company, a competing Broker, a long term rental company, vacation rental and a couple other ventures. This was the beginning of my Real Estate Career. I started taking the courses to get my real estate license.
Another top broker noticed my work ethic and drive and asked if I would come to work with her. I jumped at the chance to have my hands in the volume of business she did and took the position. For 4 years I helped build her business and wrote hundreds of offers, listings and served as the transaction coordinator and listing coordinator. Eventually all assistants spread their wings and head out into the world of Real Estate on their own, and I too found the time where it was time to serve my own clients.
Today I am a Broker with RE/MAX Sunset Realty and love it! I look back and my entire life has provided me the path to be a great broker. My knowledge of the area, my knowledge of the workings of some of the items that make or break a real estate deal all come from the path that led me here.
